A Marvel of MiniaturizationAugust 17, 2010 M. Monti(Chesapeake, Virginia) I bought two of these to use with my new car stereo's front USB port. I just ordered two more. I agree with all the other positive reviews. This is the coolest USB data storage out there. Currently have 8GB memory cards installed. Flawless operation. I just bought another 8 and 16GB micro SD. I have a couple of the cheaper plastic micro SD sticks and there is no comparison.
Great reader, incredibly small!!August 16, 2010 Andres(San Jose, Costa Rica) I bought this product a couple of weeks ago, and I'm very happy with it. Installation (basically inserting the microsd card) was very easy, and I was able to start using the reader immediately after purchasing. The cap fits snuggly, and it does not feel like it's going to come off unless I take it off. Threading the lanyard was a little tricky, though, and the string became frayed after the first try to push it through. I ended up using a needle threader to do it, and that worked well.
I definitely recommend this product, especially if you carry a lot of files around with you. Best of all, if it stops working, buy another reader and you still have the data. If you run out of space, buy a larger data card. And it's also a great conversation starter, difficult to imagine the storage capacity (y bought a 16gb card to go with it) when compared to regular usb thumb drives. As a friend put it: "it's not the size that matters, it's the amount of gigabytes!".
Best Micro Reader out there!August 8, 2010 Alex C 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Received this little drive with 2 day free shipping from Amazon (BTW came in a box meant to store 3 DVDs, way too big) and was amazed by how small it is and how ergonomically designed it it. Putting the micro card IN the unused space on the USB port is brilliant. And the build quality? I don't think it'll ever break (compared to my last one, which was all plastic Sandisk MobileMate Micro SD & M2 Reader (SDDR-121, Bulk Package) and broke after being on my key chain for about 2 months...)
Anyways, great reader.
Also, used the trick someone posted on the pics about drilling a hole in the cap. Works great! Thanks!
The best MicroSD card reader I have, doubles as mini thumb driveAugust 7, 2010 A. Luders 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am always on the go and I do quite a bit of work on laptops and netbooks. I found that most thumb drives stuck out far enough on a laptop that while using the computer on my lap were perched very dangerously and I always risked snapping off the 1-2 inch thumb drive. Moreover, I always had to remove the drive before storing it in a container. After buying a mouse with a very small USB adapter I that I could store without removing it became obvious that I needed a storage device that I wouldn't have to remove every single time I stored my computer (which was four or five times a day). There aren't many choices, however this is perfect for my needs. It's fairly flush with my computer and I don't need to remove it every time I store my computer.
If you use a laptop or netbook and you are always on the go, buy this drive and a good micro SD card before thinking about spending the same amount of money on a huge, easy-to-break thumb drive.
Dead reader....August 6, 2010 Jason Smith 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my second micro sd reader, both of which have died on me for whatever reasons. I had the Scandisk reader, and it failed because the male end of the unit that is inserted into the USB drive was made out of flimsy plastic and parts of it chipped off. This elago reader SEEMED to be an ideal replacement with sturdier metal construction, indicator light, more secure placement of the micro sd card (inside the male end of the reader which in turn is actually inside the computer when in use) and a cap. More on the cap later...
I used my micro sd for school, so when this elago reader died on me, I was quite surprised, and pissed off. My Mac has never recognized it since, and I have no reason to believe it ever will again. This reader could've been great, definitely sturdier than others I have seen/used. There is an easy fix for the cap and lanyard, so if thats all thats keeping you from purchasing, go ahead and buy it, just know that it may die on you a few months down the road.
Dont know why they do that, wish someone would figure it out and fix it, otherwise great product.
